Exciting Updates from Pioneer Meadery!
Pioneer Meadery, located in Mackay, QLD, is proud to be the first commercially registered meadery in the Whitsundays area, now successfully crafting unique meads for over a year. As a "Micro Meadery," we continue to produce small batches of 220 litres, ensuring that each traditional mead is exclusively barrel-aged. Each flavour profile of our meads is uniquely influenced by the characteristics of the barrels, resulting in one-of-a-kind creations. Once a barrel is bottled, that particular mead is never replicated!
Our Melomel (Strawberry) mead, which we aged in a Maple syrup and Rye barrel, is now ready for purchase. It offers a delightful rich strawberry flavour interwoven with botanical notes from the barrel - an exciting journey of flavour that we’re thrilled to share with you!
As we look ahead to 2026, our mission remains unwavering, to bring you a diverse array of exceptional meads that we hope you will love. Even though thrilled at the year almost past for 2025 we didn’t quite get to our ambitious goal of opening a Cellar Door, where you would have been able to sample our full range of meads all in one place. Nonetheless, we have another year ahead in 2026 and hopefully this will give Pioneer Meadery the cellar door we have been so patiently waiting for. This will provide everyone with the opportunity to discover flavours they may have never experienced before and to bring our winning flavors to everyone. Many of you have asked, “What is Mead?” It’s an excellent question! Simply put, mead is a honey wine made from honey rather than grapes. Our future Cellar Door will be the ideal place for you to explore and understand the intricacies of this ancient beverage.
